Recommended hotels
One of the most common questions I get after “what to see and do in Japan?” is “where to stay in Tokyo?” (since Tokyo usually is the first stop in Japan). So I’ve started to collect a list of hotels, hostels, apartments, ryokans, capsule hotels and everything else with a roof where you can sleep ^^ This list will grow with time and my goal is to have a few recommendations in different price ranges. When giving recommendations I think it is important to be clear on a few things:
- I have stayed myself at some of these accommodations but (unfortunately) not all. The collection contain hotels I have done research about and also been recommended by friends. The most important thing is that these are all accommodations I trust and would book myself, and therefore can recommend to others.

Hotels in Tokyo
Budget / hostels
Taito Ryokan is really a hostel in ryokan style (traditional inn). It has been renovated since I stayed there (which was much needed) but it is still a very basic accommodation with shared bathrooms and a common room. The staff is friendly and speak good enough English and will gladly give you advice about things nearby. Taito Ryokan is located in the area Asakusa (the old town) which really is a cozy district. If you are traveling on a budget and don’t need high standards, then Taito Ryokan is for you!

Tokyo Green Hotel Korakuen is a fresh business hotel with a very good location! The Tokyo Green Hotel chain have other hotels throughout the city and they are all affordable options. The room we got was quite small (main target group is traveling business men), so be sure to book a larger room if you have a lot of luggage with you.
Luxury hotels
Hotel Okura is a famous luxury hotel built in 1962. The vicinity of the hotel is very calm and offers some options of fine dining. Hotel Okura is a 10 minute walk from the center of Roppongi with it’s many restaurants and lively night life. Nowadays many other luxury hotels compete on the same level of facilities and restaurants, but what makes Hotel Okura stand out is the superb service and attention to details from the staff. Another cool thing is that they have kept the major design from the 60’s! Update: Hotel Okura is now being renowated and might loose some of the original design 🙁
